English River First Nation is comprised of Dene people whose traditional lands extend northwest from the Churchill River. Most English River members live in Patuanak and the La Plonge area.

English River has one of the highest high school and post secondary completion rates among First Nation people. Increasing numbers of English River members are graduates in technical and non-traditional areas.

The English River people have a vision for the future of self-determination and self-sufficiency. The mining, construction, forestry, tourism and service industries have been targeted for increased economic development and employment for the future.
